University of Washington researchers studied how children interact with generative-AI toys that can converse and remember earlier discussions.

In the study of eight children aged six to 11, initial curiosity sometimes shifted to frustration and antagonism when the toys struggled with complex questions. The researchers also highlighted potential risks including incorrect answers, excessive flattery and manipulation of emotional attachment.
