A developer created an open-source Minecraft mod that connects a digital map of a male fruit fly’s nervous system to an in-game fly.
The system simulates 176,422 neurons in simplified form and feeds visual, olfactory and touch data from the game into sensory neurons, while motor-neuron activity controls the virtual body. It is not a biological brain or consciousness upload: some behaviors emerge from the connectome, while functions such as flight and food tracking rely partly on hand-built software.
