NASA, the Canadian Space Agency and the German Aerospace Center have begun joint work on technologies that could enable crop production on the Moon.
Their Lunar Agriculture Module-Ground Test Demonstrator will recreate controlled conditions expected at a future lunar base and study how plants perform there. Space crops could eventually provide food while also absorbing carbon dioxide, producing oxygen and recycling water for deep-space crews.
