Anthropic says Claude autonomously scanned a massive DNA sequence database and uncovered a previously unknown enzyme system with CRISPR-like properties.
Around 950 Claude agents spent 21 hours and 210 million tokens analysing more than 200,000 reverse transcriptases before identifying the bacteriophage system, now called ART — array-associated reverse transcriptases. Its biological function is still being studied, so whether ART could eventually become a programmable gene-editing tool remains unknown.
