Researchers analyzing data from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) have identified a newly formed impact crater on the Moon measuring about 222 meters across.
Named McGetchin, the crater likely formed between April 11 and May 22, 2024, when an asteroid or comet roughly the size of a three- to six-story building struck the surface. NASA says an impact of this scale may occur on the Moon only once a century or even less often.
