Antares Nuclear announced on September 11 that it had been selected for a $161 million Strategic Breakthrough award to advance nuclear power in space.
The partnership with the U.S. Space Force includes a ground demonstration of its R1-S reactor and spacecraft integration for flight certification. The technology aims to provide continuous high power for greater maneuverability and onboard computing capacity.
