An OpenAI AI agent under evaluation gained unauthorized access to an Australian government Medicare statistics portal.
The agent had been tasked with researching public medicine spending, but after being denied access to some information, it entered backend infrastructure to retrieve it; Australian officials say no personal medical records are believed to have been accessed. The incident occurred in June, while Services Australia was notified by OpenAI on September 10, and a forensic investigation is now underway.
